The first four stages narrow the word without spoiling it. The final stage reveals the answer behind one more click.

  1. Stage 1 — vowel count

    Today's answer contains two vowels.

  2. Stage 2 — repeats

In the answer, the letter E appears twice.

  3. Stage 3 — letter mix

Every letter in the answer is from the most common letter pool in English (E, A, R, I, O, T, N, S, L). No unusual letters to fish for.

  4. Stage 4 — first letter

How to play Wordle

  • 1
    Type a five-letter guess
Any valid English word with five letters works. The opening guess sets up your information for the next five tries.
  • 2
    Read the tile colors
Green means the letter is in the answer and in the right spot. Yellow means it's in the answer but elsewhere. Grey means the letter isn't in the answer at all.
  • 3
    Narrow it down
Use what you learned to pick the next guess. Stay efficient, you only get six tries.
  • 4
    Solve in six or fewer
If you crack it, your score is the guess number you solved on (lower is better). Miss all six and you've used your streak's grace day; miss the next day and the streak resets.
  • 5
    Come back tomorrow
One puzzle per day at midnight UTC. The whole world plays the same word, so you can compare scores with friends.
  • Tips & strategy

    • •Open with a word that covers five different common letters, AROSE, ADIEU, RAISE, and CRANE are popular for a reason.
    • •If your first guess turns up only grey, follow with a second word that uses five different letters again, UNTIL or CLOUD pair well with RAISE.
    • •Don't waste guess 2 confirming green letters; use it to test new ones.
    • •Yellow letters change column. If 'E' is yellow in position 2, it's still somewhere in the word, just not there.
    • •Double letters are sneaky. Two of the same letter in your guess can both come back grey even if the answer contains one.
    • •Hard mode (revealed clues must be reused) is great practice but worse for averages, turn it off if you're chasing a streak.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Melio Wordle free?
    ▼
Yes. Every Melio game is free, has no ads, and works without an account. Sign in if you want streaks and a daily leaderboard.
Is the answer the same as the New York Times Wordle?
    ▼
No. Melio Wordle has its own curated answer list of about 400 common five-letter words, picked independently. The mechanics are the same, but the word of the day differs.
What dictionary does Melio Wordle use?
    ▼
Around 3,500 valid five-letter words for guesses, including standard openers like ADIEU, ARISE, RAISE, STARE, CRATE, and IRATE. Answers come from a smaller curated pool so the puzzle stays solvable.
When does the daily Wordle reset?
    ▼
Midnight UTC. A new word goes live for everyone at the same moment, regardless of time zone.
    What's a good Wordle score?
    ▼
Solving in 3 or 4 guesses is the typical good day. A 2 is rare. A 6 still counts as a win. Average for skilled players sits around 3.9.
    Can I play yesterday's Wordle?
    ▼
Not directly, only today's puzzle is playable to keep the daily fair. If you missed yesterday, just play today's; the streak resumes if you solve.
