MelioSolitaire

Classic Klondike. Build the foundations from ace to king and clear the table. Tap to move, no download.

How to play Solitaire

  1. 1
    Know the deal
Twenty-eight cards go into seven tableau columns, only the last card in each column starts face-up. The other twenty-four sit in the stock, waiting to be drawn.
  2. 2
Build the tableau down by alternating color
Stack cards onto the columns in descending rank with colors alternating: a red six goes on a black seven, a black five on a red six. Move single cards or whole face-up runs at once.
  3. 3
Send aces, then twos, up to the foundations
The four foundation piles build up by suit from ace to king. Play every ace the moment you see it, then the twos, and keep feeding them as the cards come free.
  4. 4
Draw from the stock when you're stuck
Tap the stock to turn cards into the waste pile and reach new plays. When the stock runs out, it recycles so you can cycle through again.
  5. 5
Win by clearing all 52 cards
Move every card to its foundation, ace through king in all four suits, and the game is won. Once the table is fully face-up, auto-complete cascades the rest home.

Tips & strategy

  • •Uncover face-down cards first. Every move that flips a new card opens up the board, so prioritize the columns with the most hidden cards.
  • •Don't empty a column unless a king is ready to fill it. An open column is only useful if you can immediately drop a king (or a king-led run) into it.
  • •Play aces and twos up the instant they appear. They can never help you on the tableau, so banking them to the foundations is always safe.
  • •Prefer the move that flips a new card over one that just shuffles face-up cards around. Information is the scarce resource in Klondike.
  • •Use undo to explore. Try a line, see where it dead-ends, and step back. Reading a few moves ahead is what separates a win from a stall.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Klondike solitaire?
▼
Deal seven tableau columns, build them down in alternating colors, and send cards ace to king up to four foundation piles by suit. Draw from the stock when you run out of moves. You win by moving all 52 cards to the foundations.
Is every solitaire game winnable?
▼
No. With perfect play, roughly 80 percent of draw-1 Klondike deals are solvable, though many are lost through ordinary mistakes. Draw-3 is harder still because you see fewer of the stock cards. If a deal stalls, start a fresh game.
What is the difference between draw 1 and draw 3?
▼
Draw 1 turns one card from the stock at a time, so you can reach every card and win more often. Draw 3 turns three at once and only the top of each group is playable, which makes for a tougher, more classic game.
Is Melio Solitaire free?
▼
Yes. Free, no ads, no account, plays in any browser. It saves your game in progress and your best time and move count locally on your device.
Can I undo a move?
▼
Yes. Solitaire keeps a full history, so you can undo as many moves as you like, all the way back to the deal. Use it to explore a line and back out if it dead-ends.
